I want to be a photographer, what are good photography schools?

I study under an AWESOME photographer right now. He has inspired me to be creative-- painting isn't my thing--- and photography is a strong part of my life and creativity. What are some good schools to go to, to become a photographer? What degree would photography be in?

  1. the art institutes
  2. There are three top schools in the US Art Center Brooks RIT Most of the instructors are either working pros or retired pros. http://www.artcenter.edu http://www.brooks.edu http://www.rit.edu
  3. NESOP in Boston (New England School Of Photography)
  4. Going to school for photography is a great way to get a good foundation in it. But my suggestion would be to go for something else. Major in something else as a back up plan in case your plans don't work out. I was going to do the same thing but decided to major in something else. I havn't regretted it. I know people who have a degree in photography and they are, after 5 years, working at some low end job. Honestly, you don't need schooling to be a good photographer. It's all in the heart and mind.
  5. I've heard great things about The School of Visual Arts in New York. I'm planning on going there after getting my AA.
